(CNN) -- New documents will be released Friday morning that may shed more light on a rampage in a Colorado movie theater.

The documents are being made public because the media requested access to more information about the July 20 shooting. Former graduate student James Holmes allegedly burst into the movie theater during a screening of the latest Batman movie and opened fire, killing 12 people and wounding 58.

Holmes, 24, is accused of murder, attempted murder, weapons violations and other charges.

In late September, the court handling Holmes' case ruled that a notebook allegedly mailed to his psychiatrist would not be accessible to prosecutors, but his lawyers would be able to examine it.

Psychiatrist Dr. Lynne Fenton has testified that her contact with Holmes ended on June 11 and that she later contacted campus police because she was "so concerned" about what happened during her last meeting with him, though she declined to elaborate.

In August, public defender Tamara Brady said in court that Holmes called a University of Colorado switchboard nine minutes before he allegedly went into the movie theater in Aurora, a suburb of Denver.

The number can be used to get in contact with faculty members during off hours, she said.

At the September hearing when Fenton testified, prosecutors added 10 attempted murder charges and amended 17 others among the 142 charges already filed against Holmes.

Infamous for making his first court appearance after the shooting wearing fire-engine red hair and a dazed expression, Holmes appeared in court in September with close-cropped dark hair.
