Hurricane Michael expected to turn northwestward Monday night and weaken - @NOLANews

Hurricane Michael is expected to turn northwestward Monday night and weaken. At 11:00 a.m. AST the center of Michael was located near latitude 33.6 north, longitude 46.3 west.

Michael is moving toward the west near 8 mph, 13 km/h. A turn toward the northwest is expected by tonight with some increase in forward speed, followed by a turn toward the north and then north- northeast with continued acceleration on Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 80 mph, 130 km/h, with higher gusts. Michael is a category one hurricane on the saffir-simpson wind scale. Weakening is forecast, and Michael could become a tropical storm by tonight.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles, 30 km, from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles, 110 km.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb, 29.15 inches.
