The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force has arrested the man who fled from the trial in Liberty County where he was eventually convicted and sentenced in the sexual assault of a young girl.

Eric McGowen, the first adult convicted in the assault of an 11-year-old girl over a four-month period in 2010, was taken into custody around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex on Greens Parkway near Ella Boulevard.

Houston officers were a part of the task force that arrested McGowen before he was placed in the custody of Texas Rangers.

FOX 26 News reporter John Donnelly was present at the trial of McGowen when he fled from the Liberty County courthouse during a break on Aug. 29. McGowen was sentenced to 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine on Aug. 30. He was one of 20 people accused in the 2010 sexual assault of the young girl. Among the suspects were 14 adults and six juveniles.

The subject of the case was assaulted inside a trailer in Cleveland.

After McGowen fled from the courthouse, an arrest warrant was issued for him with the bond amount increased to $250,000 from the original bond amount of $25,000.
